How to Bid!

All winning bids have been confirmed. Any bids made from this point onward are invalid. If you are a winning bidder, please make your donations and send proof of donation.

Bidding runs from June 22nd through June 30th at 11:59pm PST
Eta, bidding has been extended and now end on July 5th at 11:59pm!
I understand this is going to seem like a lot of text to get through, but it is important that you understand the entire process so that we can ensure easy communication between creators and bidders, make sure these great charities get their donations, and ensure you, the bidder, don't miss out on winning your auction.
FINDING OFFERS TO BID ON
First, please take a look at all the offerings in the Creator List post, organised by types of offerings. You can also browse the tags here on the bidding journal to find the characters, ships, eras, and other fandoms you're looking for. Please understand that we've tried to make the tags as useful as possible, but for many posts we simply could not list every character and ship, so while the tags can be helpful, you should take the time to look through the posts themselves to make sure you're not missing some great offers!
Once you've selected an item you wish to bid on, please look through the creators listing in its entirety to make sure you understand what they are and are not willing to do. If you have any concerns about what you want, you should contact the creators prior to bidding.
ETA: Though it should go without saying, this is a Harry Potter auction. If you are choosing characters from another fandom offered by your creator, the prompt should feature those characters in the Harry Potter setting. If you are choosing the setting of another fandom, it should include the Harry Potter characters.
PREPARING TO BID
At the end of each auction is the listing of items up for auction. Each of these items has their own comment thread. You must be careful to choose the correct comment thread for the item you wish to bid on. For example, if an author is offering a 250 word drabble, a 1000 word ficlet, and an 5000 word fic, and you wish to bid on the 1000 word fic, be sure that you read the comment headers carefully and reply to the 1000 word ficlet thread.
*Some creators are offering more than one of the same item (2 pieces of lineart, 2 1000 word fics, etc). For these, the comments indicate whether they are for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc item of the exact same type. Again, make a note of which of these you are bidding on. These are a great opportunity for you if you're outbid on the 1st auction, you can bid on the 2nd, and so on.
*Some creators are offering different types of work (ie art, fic, and beta). There are separate posts for each type of fanwork. Make sure you're looking at the correct post for the work you want.
Although you do not need to create a dreamwidth account to bid, I STRONGLY suggest you do so, in order to keep track of what you're bidding on, and if you've been outbid. At the very least please copy a link to the specific comment thread(s) you're bidding on and keep that some place safe to check in regularly.
MAKING A BID
On the correct thread, reply with the amount you are bidding and your method of contact. After the initial bid, anyone can increase bids in increments of .50 cents up to whatever amount you wish. (Meaning if you really want to win and have the money to spare, feel free to bid big!)
*Please do not start new comment threads
*There is no limit to how many times you can bid, nor on how many items you bid on, but you must always include your method of contact and the amount bid. Any other information should be discussed with the creator through their chosen method of communication.
AFTER BIDDING
Bidding will close at 11:59pm PST/PDT on June 30th, 2020. ETA, Extended to July 5th at 11:59pm.
Please keep in mind when donations are due, and the amount you have pledged to donate before bidding. The whole point of this auction is to raise money for a very important cause dear to all our hearts, so bidding in bad faith only hurts our cause. If a winning bidder does not make a donation, the next bidder will have an opportunity to win the auction for their highest bid, it they so choose.
One final note: Many participants in this event are cisgender folks who, while allies, don't have any experience in writing trans characters. I would encourage all bidders to work closely with their chosen creators, answering questions and offering suggestions. If any trans folks out there are interested in offering to beta for the creators, let me know, or feel free to reach out to them yourselves.

YOU MUST allow for messages to be received even if you are not mutuals. Unless otherwise discussed among yourselves and approved by us the Trans Wizard Tournament, you must donate to one of the charities on the list.
